CPR or cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a combination of rescue breathing ( mouth to mouth resuscitation) and chest compressions. If someone isn't breathing or circulating blood adequately, CPR can restore circulation of oxygen-rich blood to the brain. The most vital organ that must be protected is the brain, without oxygen, permanent brain damage or death can occur in less than 8 minutes. The AHA states that in absence of CPR, a victims chances of survival drops 7 to 10% for every minute that lapses between collapse and intervention. About 92% die from SCA (sudden cardiac arrest) before reaching the hospital, but if more people knew CPR more lives could be saved.

CPR may be necessary during many different emergencies, including accidents, near drowning, suffocation, poisoning, smoke inhalation, electrocution injuries, and suspected sudden death syndrome SIDS.

Reading about CPR and learning when it's needed will give you a basic understanding of the concept and procedure, but its strongly recommended that you learn the details of how to perform CPR by taking a course that is hands on. If CPR is needed, using the correct techniques will give someone the best chance of recovery.

CPR is most successful when administered a quickly as possible, but you must first be able to determine if it's necessary. It should only be performed when a a person is not breathing or circulating blood adequately. AHA CPR courses teaches you what to do if you alone or if you have a partner and how to handle an unresponsive person. That is what Life Saver GA is here to do ...to help you save a life!

The AHA strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLA,and PALS and has developed instructional materials for this puropse. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the AHA and any fees charged for such a course, except for portion of fees needed for AHA course materials income to the association.
